Specials In the early 80ies "S 41" was trials-boat for chaff "Wolke". Installation of the testgear was performed at MArs Kiel, the tests in Eckernförde Bight. In the gear stanniol-bars were cut to small peaces which were blown out by a pipe. The stanniol-chaff was to displace the center of the radar-cross-section in order that closing missiles did not steer towards the boat. The firing course was calculated with respect to threat-direction, wind and own course. That was done by hand or on the plotting tabel and was difficult due to the short reaction time. The heavy test-gear was originally placed on B-level behind the mast, for weight reasons and to improve stability of the boat it was later installed on A-leverl behind the bridge-house. It resulted in cracks i the steel-hull in this area. At the same time an asbestos-sanitizing was carried out on 18 of the 20 boats. Decommissioning of the first two boats startet in 1992, other boats followed, the last units were decommissioned in 2002. The OCTOPUS-System were installed in the boats of Classes 143 and 143 A. The Class S-Boat 148 (Tiger) is in international context called "S 41-Class".
