Kampfgruppe Eisernes Tor (Battle Group Iron Gate)

The Kampfgruppe Eisernes Tor (Battle Group Iron Gate) was a suborganization of the Donauflottille (Danube Flotilla) of the Kriegsmarine. Boats "S 86" and "S 89" enroute via Danube river to the Black Sea in order to be handed over to Romenia were called back by oder of F.d.S. on 25.08.1944 and subordinated Kampfgruppe Eisernes Tor ( Battle Group Iron Gate).

On their way up river Danube "S 86" hit a mine at km 900 and was badly damaged. She had to be tugged by "S 89".

Both boats returned to Germany and were subordinated 1. S-Boat School-Flotilla "S 86" on 17.01.1945, "S 89" already on 01.01.1945.
