Mast Markings of the S-Boats in the Reichsmarine
The marking of S-boats in the Reichsmarine by angles and by diagonal crosses in the mast was already performed in the first years on "LM"-boats. This way of marking was continued on the S-boats of types "S 1" to "S 18" and was still performed after renaming of Reichsmarine into Kriegsmarine. A detailed description of the markings of the boats is no longer possible today but on the basis of pictures the markings of some boats can be specified. For "Sperrverband Ostsee" it can be established for the following LM-boats that "LM 14" displayed to angles with opening upwards in the mast, "LM 15" showed a diagonal cross, and "LM 17" carried two angles with opening downwards.
