S-Boats in the People's Navy (Volksmarine) 1956 - 1990

Light-Torpedo-S-Boat "Wiesel" (Projekt 68.200)

The Construction Office of the VEB Jachtwerft Berlin submitted the proposal for a wooden boats (Mahogani) ov 19 ts displacement. It could be utilised in three variants: As torpedo-boat with three torpedo tubes, as minelayer, and with aluminum-seats as transport vehicle for 32  frogmen or storm troops. The forerunner project 68.100 was iknown as "Hydra" but it was project 68.200 "Wiesel" of which the series-construction was performed. The units of this class came into service between 1964 an 1977.

Specials:

The torpedoes were fired astern with head forward, the boat had to turn away imidiately to avoid hit by own torpedo.

The serial no. 68.212 (PtNo 971) is at Militärhistorisches Museum Dresden.
