Specials

the hulls were built of wood, in difference to th American boats the Norwegian boats had only one 20mm machinegun on the forecastle. The boats taken over by the Norwegian Homedefence (hejemmeværnet) got first one 12,7-mm- Browning M2 machinegun and under a later modernization two 20mm Rheinmetall machineguns. The two German boats had two 40mm-Bofors/L70 guns.

From 1959 tol 1966 a total of 42 boats of "Tjeld"-class were built: 22m for Sjøforsvaret, 14 for US Navy, four for Greece and to for the Bundesmarine which later were delivered  to Turkey. Six more boats were built in USA under license for the US Navy.
